When a Little Bit is What You Have

How many of us give up, walk away, or set aside something because we only have a little bit to give?

A little bit of time, a little bit of love, a little bit of energy, a little bit of money, a little bit of talent, a little bit of knowledge, a little bit of something.

We dream and set goals in grand fashion.  We have ideas that burst limitations and romanticize delusions of grandeur.

“Do not despise these small beginnings,
for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin”
Zechariah 4:10a (NLT)

The Lord rejoices to see the work begin.  REJOICES!!!

Can you imagine with me for a moment what it may mean to have the Lord of all of creation rejoice?

I really can’t, but there certain is a joy to be found in trying.

Little things repetitively stacked one by one, side by side, create walls, pathways, bridges, and foundations that make the big things possible.

The Lord does incredible miracles through small resources.  A little bit of oil in a jar that never empties, faith like a mustard seed, a savior babe in a manger.  Big miracles, little packages.

Live it Out

What do you have a little bit of right now in this moment?  Look at it.  Think about it.  What can you do with it?

NOW DO IT!

Take what you have.  Invest it.  Plant it.  Share it.  Give it.

Take what you have

Rejoice in the beginning.  Don’t despise it or belittle it.

Experience the joy of the little bit you had to give.  Rejoice.

Release those delusions of grandeur and dreams of doing so much MORE.  Be faithful with what you do have.  Give from what you’ve got.

Pray Through It

Beloved Lord,

Please help us to find new delight and willingness to work with the little bits that we do have in our lives.  Thank you so much for the big dreams You give us, but help us to keep our heads from floating too high in the clouds, or becoming deeply frustrated for the ways we can’t go BIG in all we do.

You are able to work miracles.  Help us be resiliently faithful with what You place in our lives, in our hands.  May we begin and continue the work with what we’ve got.

Lord, please help us to be filled with joy in our little bits, may we experience glimpses of the way You rejoice over the work done.

In the name of Jesus, who always understands how important the little bits are to the big picture.  Amen.
