God + me = Proverbs 31 I shall be
Recently I was asked to speak to a group of women. One of the topics requested was to speak on Proverbs 31. The main purpose for my being there was to encourage the individuals of the team. I jumped at the chance to allow God to use me. This request fell right in line with my personal mission to encourage with love, passion and enthusiasm. What a blessing!
Then I sat down to write what I was going to say in this section. I began by reading Proverbs 31 in three different translations. I read a large number of commentaries on this Proverb. As women studies goes, there’s so many writings about how to be a Proverbs 31 woman.
The best philosophy I’ve heard about accomplishing challenging projects is to get started and don’t quit. So I started writing. Then I started revising. Then rewriting. Then editing. Then more rewriting. I got to a point where I spoke to God and said, “God, how can I write on this. Proverbs 31 is still so daunting to me. I don’t believe I live this example, how can I teach on it?”
It was at that point that I began again. I read Proverbs 31 in my Bible, my NIV version that I carry with me, which is filled with notes. One of the verses that I have underlined is “a women who fears the LORD is to be praised”. I noticed something that I had never observed about my Bible before. When the name LORD is used, it is in all capital letters. Not just a capital L at the beginning. The letters are ALL capitalized.
I closed my eyes. I began to type.
GOD + me = Proverbs 31 I shall be.
This is what came out; an amazing gift of the Spirit. What an answer to prayer. From that point beautiful words flowed through my hands onto the page. It was as if I was watching a miracle.
It has got to be all about GOD! The Proverbs 31 woman will not work without HIM. What encouragement! What a weight off of my shoulders. How many times have I felt overwhelmed by Proverbs 31 because I felt that I would never add up to such a lofty standard. I alone can not do it.
Believe me, I have tried to produce those results on my own strength. I took that passage of the Bible and made it my personal to do list. Do you want to know where I ended up? Exhausted. Burned out. Weak. Weary. Stressed out. Sad. Depressed. Discouraged. Have you ever felt that way?
Proverbs 31 is not about me. It’s not about us as women, wives or mothers. Proverbs 31 is about God! It is about what God does for us. It’s about the ways His love will change our hearts. It’s about His sacrificial love being poured out through us onto those in our lives. This is a message I want to share, to share with each dear and precious woman in my life. To all I have met and to those yet to meet.
Now we can feel refreshed, renewed, restored and rejuvenated! Come to God. Let Him work in you and through you. Be filled by His grace, mercy and LOVE.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Thank you so very much for revealing Yourself in such a beautiful way. Lord, please forgive me for every time I thought Proverbs 31 was about me. Thank you for making it all about You! You are so good and so gracious!
Thank you for taking the weight off of us as women. Thank you for bearing our weariness and burdens. Thank you for the growth You bring to us personally. Thank You for being the Master Potter who shapes our hearts to be in Your likeness and in doing so, crafts us to be known as Proverbs 31 women.
Lord, please bless each woman who reads this with a great big hug from You. Give each of them the reassurance that You make them beautiful in Your ways and Your times for it is truly ALL ABOUT YOU! Love, Love, Loving YOU LORD!
