Why We Should Never Fall Trap To Comparison

As a woman, it’s quite easy to fall trap to comparison. I know we all have heard it, “comparison is the thief of all joy.” Yes, it sure is! When I find myself “looking around” at others achievements, accomplishments, successes, their beauty, their size, etc.. I find myself defeated, discouraged and trapped. This, my friend is exactly why we can’t be “looking around” at others. We must keep our eyes on God. He has blessed each one of us with our own strengths and talents and we must use them. We must keep our eyes on Him and run our own race.

What does the bible have to say about comparison?

2 Corinthians 10:12 We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.

Ezekiel 16: 13-14 You were very beautiful and became a queen. Then you became famous among the nations, because you were so beautiful. Your beauty was perfect, because of the glory I gave you, says the Lord God.

Did you catch that? Because of the glory God gave to you and I our beauty is made perfect!

When you find yourself “looking around” and comparing yourself to others, have you ever stopped to think that if you take her good traits and her successes that you will also inherit her baggage, her struggles, her trials, challenges, her marriage, her illness, her insecurities, and her children? God hasn’t equipped you to run her race, He has equipped you to run your own race. You can’t handle her baggage, her marriage, or her trials.

Will you join me and lay your struggle of comparison at the feet of Jesus? Give it over to Him, and let Him have his way. Will you take it one step further, and ask God to help you be a woman who encourages other women. Who comes along side other women and builds them up, cheers them on, and prays with them.

My life hasn’t been easy, just like yours hasn’t been easy. We all have a story to tell, but that’s just it… It’s MY story. I don’t want to be comparing my life to anyone else’s and trying to fit their story into mine… God has each of us on our own journey, writing our own story… Let’s let Him have his way in our journey. You hold the pen to your story, are you writing it your way, or are you allowing someone else’s success dictate your story.

I am the precious treasure in your heart. I will help you shine (2 Corinthians 4:7).

God wants you and I to SHINE! We can only SHINE when we run our race for Him, not for others. We can’t be busy “looking around” at what everyone else is doing. We have to allow Him to redirect our paths and guide us on the path He has prepared for us. When we get caught up in comparison, we are losing momentum and footing in our own journey, we get pushed off course and sometimes become stuck, paralyzed, and afraid to start again.

If that is where you are today my sweet friend, I encourage you to seek God today, ask Him to take your burden of comparison. Lay it at the feet of Jesus, and leave it there and turn from it. Proverbs 4: 5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;do not depend on your own understanding.Seek his will in all you do,and he will show you which path to take.

I am praying for you.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for every woman reading this today. I pray that we will lay down the comparison trap we are in at the feet of Jesus today. I pray that you will re-direct our path today and show us just a glimpse of the great plans you have in store for us. Lord, I pray that we as women will come together and support other women, encourage one another instead of tear each other down. I pray that you will equip each of us with a heart to love all women. Break our hearts for what breaks yours. I pray that we will see ourselves as you see us, beautiful, worthy, brave and treasured. In your name we pray, Amen.
